Does Your Life Lack Meaning And Purpose?

Does Your Life Lack Meaning And Purpose?

Sarah asked for my help because Sarah's doctor advised her to find out the emotional causes of her chronic fatigue.  Sarah, a successful stockbroker, had a loving marriage for 18 years.  On the surface, everything was going well in his life.  Sarah had enough money, friends, and a good relationship.  However, Sarah woke up each morning struggling with fatigue and depression.

David asked for my help because of chronic feelings of inner emptiness.  David is very successful in his manufacturing business, he has a good marriage and two grown children.  Like Sarah, everything looked good.  However, feelings of inner emptiness led David to overeat, overspend, and enjoy internet pornography.

Although Sarah and David were successful in their careers, neither of them appreciated their work.  They worked to earn money, but their work meant little to them.  However, when they looked inside, none of them could understand what this meant to them.  Both said they had never felt a meaning in adulthood and that emptiness and depression had been with them since adolescence.

As I worked with Sarah and David it became clear that each made a decision early in life to shut down their feelings to avoid the deep pain of terrible loneliness.  Sarah closed it because she couldn't tolerate the loneliness of her mother's behavior towards her.  Her mother would say she loved Sarah, but Sarah  never felt her love.  Instead, she felt her mother pulling her hard, trying to take her life.  As a very sensitive child, Sarah couldn't tolerate this confusing experience, so she put her feelings in a box and decided to live in her head instead of her instincts.

David, also a very sensitive child, closed down because he couldn't tolerate the loneliness of being with two empty and emotionally unavailable parents and the loneliness of rejection from his peers.

As adults, Sarah and David were still disconnected from their feelings.  They were still afraid to feel the pain of loneliness, a feeling that is actually a daily occurrence.  Loneliness is there when your heart is closed or someone else's heart is closed, or when there is no one to share love with.  Loneliness is the main feeling when we want to connect and the other is not available.  If you were completely open to your feelings, you would experience moments of loneliness throughout the day.  However, most people never experience this feeling and ignore it completely, because the moment there is emotional pain, they instantly switch to various addictive behaviors and addictions, such as substances, activities, thoughts, etc.  of shame and guilt.  .  However, when we exclude pain, we also exclude joy and a passionate sense of purpose.

Pain and joy are in the same box.  Sarah and David couldn't understand what this meant to them and what brought them joy while controlling their feelings.  And the very act of keeping his feelings in check created his depression and his inner emptiness.

Imagine that your feelings are like a child inside.  If you ignore this child, ignoring his feelings, he will feel abandoned.  Our refusal to feel and take responsibility for our own pain is inner surrender and results in anxiety, depression and / or an inner emptiness.

It is our inner child, our sensitive self, who is the model of what has meant to us, our passion and our purpose.  Each of us comes to this planet with a deep purpose to express, and when we don't express it, we end up feeling empty and depressed.  However, we cannot discover this purpose if we are in control of our feelings.

Learning to deal with the pain of loneliness is essential to discovering your passion and purpose.  There is no way to deal with loneliness without a deep personal connection with a spiritual source of love and wisdom.  We cannot deal with loneliness with our mind alone.

You will find deep meaning in your life when you decide to open up and learn from your feelings of loneliness, rather than keep closing them.  And you will only open yourself to these feelings when you are not feeling alone inside, thanks to the experience of the love and wisdom of your Spirit Guide.  Openness to Divine Love and openness to your feelings will bring fulfillment, joy, passion and purpose which are your soul's aspirations.
